Cardona lab
Institute of Neuroinformatics, University of Zurich and ETH Zurich
The lab operated from August 2008 to December 2011. The lab moved to HHMI Janelia Farm from 2012 to 2019, and is now at the MRC LMB (see also the institutional group page).
The lab studies the neural circuit underlying somatosensation and motor function. We use the larva of Drosophila melanogaster as a model system. We are currently reconstructing one complete abdominal segment of the nerve cord with synaptic resolution, using serial section electron microscopy. We write and use the software TrakEM2, Fiji and CATMAID.
We aim at understanding the integration of somatosensory information and the generation and modulation of motor patterns.
We are an interdisciplinary neuroscience laboratory that draws from the fields of biology, computer science and physics.
